Automating Influenza Vaccine Virus Data Processing
Description
Information for candidate vaccine virus (CVV) data from public-facing websites is highly labor intensive to gather. Previously R scripts—text files with computer programming commands—automate some scraping processes but still rely on manual methods to extract data from PDFs.
Detailed example
The use case automates extracting key phrases, recognizing text, processing forms, and identifying entities to streamline data extraction and supplement missing CVV data from PDFs. This tool is intended for internal use only.
AI / analytics pattern
Generative AI: AI that generates new or synthetic content (e.g., images, videos, audio, text, code).
Automation level / stage
b) Pilot – The use case has been deployed in a limited test or pilot capacity.
Expected benefit
The automation from this AI use case reduced processing time for new data from about one week to one day, enabling faster access and analysis of CVV data to enhance CDC’s preparedness for upcoming flu seasons.
