PACE-MAPP
Description
The MAPP (modeling, analysis and prediction program) remote sensing retrieval algorithm for the upcoming PACE (plankton, aerosol, cloud, ocean ecosystem) satellite mission uses neural networks to drastically improve the computational speed and capability of determining aerosol, cloud, and ocean properties from space-based measurements of the Earth.
Detailed example
determining aerosol, cloud, and ocean properties
AI / analytics pattern
Classical/Predictive Machine Learning: Models trained on data to make predictions or classifications based on identified patterns or relationships.
Automation level / stage
a) Pre-deployment – The use case is in a development or acquisition status.
Expected benefit
This framework can be used to train neural networks for a variety of satellite and airborne sensors, including passive polarimeter and hyperspectral sensors and active lidar instruments, to better understand the Earth's dynamic atmosphere, ocean and land systems.
