Diploid Detector/Triploid Tracker for Grass Carp
Description
There are expected benefits from the ability to determine whether Grass Carp can reproduce (diploid, with two sets of chromosomes) and thus take over and damage an ecosystem, or whether the captured Grass Carp have three sets of chromosomes (triploid) and were hatchery produced and will not reproduce: (1) the fish can be eliminated immediately (2) law enforcement can address illegalities per state per the Lacey Act (3) the ecosystem will be maintained and protected from reproductive Grass Carp.
Detailed example
The output is the prediction that an individual Grass Carp is triploid or diploid. The final product should be able to be used with additional fish species.
AI / analytics pattern
Computer Vision: AI that processes and interprets visual data (e.g., images and videos).
Automation level / stage
a) Pre-deployment – The use case is in a development or acquisition status.
Expected benefit
science for development, evaluation, and refinement of technologies for preventing the spread of Grass Carp to uninvaded waters, and for reducing populations where where they are present or established.
